Chapter 18
The Prince went out of the carriage as soon as it stopped at the footstep of the Mansion of Devon. His footsteps echoed all over the hall. His strides were long and as he arrived at the dining hall, where his cousins were having their delightful breakfast.
“Sebastian?” Edward stared blankly at him.
“Is that you?” He again asked and ambled towards him to shake with his hands.
“Yes, this is me, Edward.” Edward grinned at his remark and motioned him to the seat next to Stephen.
“Sit next to Stephen, and have a delightful breakfast.” Before sitting, the Prince greeted the Duke and Duchess of Devon. They greeted him as well and asked him to take a seat. The Prince gladly accepted the offer and sat down.
His gaze fell on the woman sitting next to Edward.
Marie.
Marie turned away when Sebastian was looking at her. She is disappointed because he has followed her, all the way to Devon. She needed a space and she wanted to move on, but if she kept seeing Sebastian’s alluring face, she cannot help herself but fall again to his charms. She has no time for it now, she no time for it forever. Marie focused on her food and ate silently with Stephen’s family.
The conversation of the family was concentrated on Sebastian’s life in Wales. Random topics were asked by the Duke and the Duchess and they were entertained by the smart answers of the Prince. Marie caught the Prince grin a couple of times, and she felt her heart tightened as she watched a glorious creature, like the Prince, to grin charmingly. She cannot deny the fact that she still is enamored with the Prince.
“Edward, any plans of marriage?” Sebastian asked curiously to Edward. Marie was startled by his inquiry.
Edward gave him a smile. “Not yet.” He replied and continued to eat.
But, before taking the food to his mouth, he bantered, “Unless, Marie will accept my engagement.”
Marie choked when Edward said it.
Edward laughed at her response and patted her back.
“I was just bantering.” He said and gave a gleeful glance to Sebastian.
Sebastian’s stare was cold and full of anger. Edward continued eating after Marie recovered from her choking.
Edward sensed there was something strange about Sebastian’s look at him after his jest. He had never seen his cousin stare like that before. It was cold and if you weren’t brave enough, you would run away after seeing it. It was full of fury and hatred.
He surmised Sebastian is enamored with Marie.
