Chapter 10
The following days made Tristin so desperate in seeing Chris. It’s been a week since she hasn’t seen him. It is like he is avoiding her, and she wondered why. Is he ashamed of what he’s done? Or he doesn’t want to talk to her again? She is deeply troubled about it, and she wanted to ask to him why is he distancing from her. Tristin is eager to go to the class where she and Chris are classmates. She really needed to talk to him. It is the only way she can get the answers of her doubts. The moment she stepped in the classroom, Tristin immediately saw Chris sitting in the seat where he used to sit. He is reading a book, and he looked so serious about it. Tristin was hesitant if she will talk to him; it looks as if he doesn’t want to be disturbed. She gulped and gathered all her courage to talk to him. “Hello.” She greeted happily, and sat next to Chris. Chris followed her with his cynical eyes. “Good Morning.” He replied haughtily. Tristin was much tensed. She didn’t expect that she would actually run out of words around him. She used to talk to him easily and never hesitant. “So, you are actually Chris?” she asked shyly. “Yes.” “Chris. Chris Roux?” “Yes, indeed. It is me.” “Okay.” She replied and breathed. She was still gazing the ceiling and kept looking around her. She must be very nervous. “Uh, why didn’t you tell me earlier?” “Because I don’t want to.” The sentence echoed through Tristin’s brain. Direct. Straightforward. Frank. “Oh, okay.” That is all her answer. Tristin stared at Chris and decided not to disturb him. He must be very annoyed with her. She moved a couple of inches away from him and rested her head on the table. Chris noticed that Tristin acted strange after what he said. A question bothered him, Did he say something wrong? “Tri, you alright?” Chris asked while he tapped he tapped her shoulder. Tristin still resting her head on the table replied, “Yes. I am alright.” Her voice was gentle, but trembling. Chris moved nearer to her, rested his arm around her shoulder and whispered in a mocking tone, “If you keep ignoring me, I’ll be ignoring you for the rest of my life.” Tristin hastily raised her head and bawled, “What?” Chris smirked mischievously and spoke, “Now, I promise I won’t be ignoring you.” He widened his smirk, moved back, and continued reading. Tristin gaped. Chris was playing impishly with her. He appeared to be enjoying it, while she is provoked. But then, she grasped the idea that Chris was actually the guy she used to loll around. “Thanks.” Tristin said. Chris turned to her and asked, “Why?” “You already promised you won’t be ignoring me.” Chris stared at her horridly. Tristin answered him with a playful beam. “I don’t like where this is going.” Chris muttered. “Oh, you’re going to love it!” Tristin replied teasingly. The grin cannot be wiped off from Tristin’s face. Their professor arrived and the classes started. While Chris was gathering his things, Tristin stood next to him and whispered, “Meet me this afternoon at the mall. Around 4.” She gave him a smirk and left. Chris watched her leave the room and suddenly Tristin stopped. She turned around and stared straight into his eyes and grinned, and then she left. Chris cannot help but snort. Chapter 9
“Thanks for the afternoon. I really had fun.” Tristin said. “It has always been a pleasure.” Christian said. “Would you like to rest for a while. I mean, you can hang out in my room for a couple of minutes.” “Sure.” Tristin and Christian went inside Tristin’s room. “My room is small. So, pardon me for that.” “It’s okay. My room’s bigger but this is fine.” He replied. Christian scooted near her study table and saw several photos. There she was when she was small. There is also a photo with her high school friends. There is also a photo with her family, and the last photo he saw was the photo they had. He remembered it exactly. It was when the two of them went to swing he made especially for her. He remembered that he didn’t talk to her for two days to make the swing. Tristin was mad at him for not talking to her and for ignoring her. But when he showed the swing, which is the main reason why he was ignoring her, Tristin’s anger to him vanished quickly. Faster than the evaporation of water. He cherished so much the swing that until now, it is still well kept. “Is this Chris?” Christian asked. “Where?” Christian raised the photo higher so Tristin can see it. “Oh, yes. It is him.” She said proudly. “Isn’t he handsome?” she added in a very dreamy voice. Christian was astounded that it took a couple of second before he answered her. He don’t want to answer her yes, so he decided to answer her with a smile. Christian couldn’t hide his flattery that he kept on smiling as he put the photo back down. Christian sat at her couch near the door and waited for her to change. He needed to go. He can’t help himself from smiling and hearing again and again Tristin’s dreamy voice. Tristin took long before she was able to change. The moment she stepped out of the bathroom, Christian stood up. “I have to go now. It’s late and there are things I needed to finish.” Christian said. “Thanks for spending the afternoon with me. I enjoyed it.” Tristin replied. Christian walked to the door and Tristin walked him to the door. “Bye.” Tristin said as she was opening the door for him. “Goodbye.” He said and went out. But before Tristin was able to close the door, Christian turned around and whispered to her ear, “I had fun today,” he paused and continued, “and the summer three years ago.” He kissed her in her lips. “I hope I am your first and second kiss.” Christian smiled and left. Tristin watched him leave, still in shock. Tristin didn’t imagine that the whole time he was with Chris. The Chris she wanted to be with. The Chris she befriended three years ago. The Chris she loved. Tristin ran to her bed and covered her face with a pillow. She knew she was flushed. She turned her body facing the ceiling, she smiled. She thought her college wouldn’t be that hard. Knowing Chris is by her side. And Chris was right. He was her first and second kiss. Chris was madly infuriated by his actions. He never wanted to tell Tristin this early that he is actually Chris. He wanted her to feel that he miss him and see her cry because she wanted to be with him. But, his plans are all changed after going out with her in one afternoon. Very foolish move. Now, he doesn’t know how to talk to her. Meanwhile, Tristin was reminiscing the afternoon they spent together. How come she never guessed that he was actually Chris. He looked different, yet, he acts the same. His walk, his talk, and the way he look at her. Tristin blushed as she kept thinking about it. She kept turning on her bed because she couldn’t forget the afternoon they spent together.
