Chapter 10
The following morning, Marie arrived at the dining hall the last. All of them were seated and were eating their breakfast. “Good morning, Father. Pardon me for being so late.” “It is alright, my dear.” The Duke said and kissed her daughter. Marie seated and greeted Mary.
“You seem very uplifting today, my dear Marie.” Mary observed as she ate the slice of her potato.
“Oh, indeed, I am! I have never been this exultant.” Marie bragged. Mary grinned at her. “Stephen, would you like to accompany me tonight?” Marie asked amiably.
“Where are we going?”
“You are going to a masquerade ball in Falmouth.” The Duke interrupted. “The Marquis and Marchioness of Falmouth are inviting my dear Marie to the masquerade ball. I am sending you to accompany her.”
Sebastian’s face was irritated by the invitation. Can he go to?
“How about my cousin, Sebastian, your grace?” Stephen inquired.
“It depends on Marie. They specifically said whoever Marie wanted to invite may come.” Stephen nodded and turned to Marie, “Will my cousin go with us?”
Marie smirked and answered, “No. I want to spend the night with you. Alone.” Marie’s smirk widened as he faced Sebastian.
The Prince’s temper rose up and annoyance is greatly seen on his face. Stephen took a glance on his cousin and realized that he is already angry. Anger is obviously written on his face.
“Can we not invite my cousin with us, Marie?” Marie shook her head as a no. Stephen sighed. Marie smiled and Mary whispered, “What are you thinking?” Marie’s smile widened and continued eating.
Mary looked up to Stephen and communicated with him using her eyes. Stephen shook his head as if saying he doesn’t know what Marie is planning. Marie sighed in response.
Sebastian watched Marie eating her breakfast and tried to intimidate her. She is very clever, and he loathed it very much. He observed her closely admiring her refinement in eating and hating her witty intelligence. She looked really pleasing sitting there and her cheeks all flushed and her clever smile lying across her face. He admired her for being so beautiful, at the same time he hated her for her cunning ideas.
The Duke stood up and left the table to finish his paper works. Marie glared at Sebastian. Sebastian did not realize she was glaring him; he was momentarily hallucinating that Marie was glaring at him.
“Your Highness, if you continue looking at me like that, I have no choice but to let you pack your belongings.” Marie snapped, stood up and left.
“Sebastian, are you alright?” Stephen asked.
“Of course, I am!” He replied haughtily and left. Stephen stared at his cousin. He is angry and furious. And he has no idea, why.
“Stephen, what happened to the two of them?” Mary asked.
“They were fine yesterday. The guests even find them very adorable. And now, they are acting strange.” Mary added.
“I don’t have any idea, Mary. They were already acting that way since last night.” Stephen replied.
