Marie and her friends were having breakfast with her father. “I have an announcement to make.” Marie and her comrades put down their spoons and forks and listened intently to the Duke. “As you may all know, Stephen is a close relative of the Prince of Wales. The Prince decided to visit his cousin and stay with him in Devon, but unfortunately Stephen is here with us in Cornwall. Though the Prince wanted to stay in Devon, Stephen still invited him to stay with us here in Cornwall, and he accepted the invitation. We will be expecting the Prince to arrive this afternoon or tomorrow, maybe.” They all nodded in unison.

After eating breakfast, Marie, Mary and Stephen, went for a walk. It is their habit of going for a stroll after having a delightful meal. “Stephen, are you close with the Prince?” Mary asked in curiosity. “Not entirely.” Stephen replied after recalling his thoughts. “Have you ever met him?” Marie questioned. “Oh, yes. I did. I think I was 12. I was young, by then.” “Is he agreeable?” “Indeed. Yet, now, I have no idea. I’ve heard a lot of scandals about him. He is quite the center of all rumors.” Stephen replied and almost giggled. Marie and Mary stopped asking Stephen questions and just enjoyed their stroll with their usual talks.

Marie and Mary went back to Mansion first because Stephen had to something. He told them that he might be late. They ambled through the meadow towards the Mansion.

“Marie, what do you think about the Prince?” Mary asked her friend clutching her in her arms. “I do not know. I guess he is all like the princes out there, haughty and aloof.” “Oh dear, he will feel miserable in the Mansion.” Mary jested. Marie replied her with a laugh and they sauntered towards the castle with anecdotes and snickering.

Marie and Mary arrived at the Mansion and went back to their own bedchambers. Marie is occupied with her studies after their strolls. She needed to study piano, dance, French, and Latin. Her schedule is filled with activities related to her education.

Mary, too, has her own studies. She may not be at their estate but her governess follows her wherever she went.

Who said being an heir duchess is easy? Marie and Mary are heirs, and they loathed it occasionally. They wished they were normal townsfolk. They bet its life is pretty easy.

After their studies, the ladies went to the dining hall to have their supper. Stephen was already at the dining hall with Marie’s father, and a young man who they did not recognize. They guessed it was the Prince.

And they are right.
