Chapter 13
There is no day our lovers aren’t together. Stephen and Mary followed them wherever they went and suffered the agonizing feeling of loneliness.
Mary felt envious of the feeling of being enamored. As she watched the young lovers walk hand in hand, a pang pf jealousy attacked her and she wished there is someone who would hold her arms and dreaded to let it go. Images of young man kissing her and embracing her the way she wanted and loving her more than his own life. Mary realized she is fantasizing. “Stephen, those couple makes me fantasize.” Mary exclaimed and laughed. “I am pretty jealous with Marie. She has someone to take care of her, and cherish her.” Mary continued talking.
Stephen didn’t bother listening to her. He is seriously filled with thoughts of the letter he received this morning from the King of Wales. Random images clouded his mind and watching his cousin very closely. Those laughter and smiles and kisses, are they all fake? Those endearing words he said to Marie, are they truthful? Or is she one of the ladies he leaves when he is done with her? Stephen is thinking deeply and plans how he will talk to his Sebastian.
“Stephen, are you actually listening to me?” Mary asked as she saw the strange look of Stephen to his cousin.
“I am sorry, Mary. I have been deluded by my thoughts. What were you saying?”
“Oh, forget it, Stephen. I lost interest in the topic.” Mary sighed.
“I apologize for my behavior, Mary. I was thinking.”
“It is alright, Stephen. What were you thinking?”
Stephen glared at her and his mouth dried. He was uncertain to what he will say to Mary. “Oh, it’s nothing. Don’t you worry about it.”
“You look bizarre, Stephen. And the way you act today. Is there any problem in Devon?”
“No, it’s not that. I can handle it. Don’t worry, Mary. I will help you find your knight.” Mary grinned at him and clung her arms unto him.
Sebastian and Marie ambled towards the Mansion together with Stephen and Mary. Stephen and Mary left first. Sebastian asked Marie to stay for awhile because he wanted to talk to her. Marie agreed and followed Sebastian to the study.
“Marie, let us have picnic this weekend.” Sebastian offered.
“Picnic?” Marie asked, astounded by his offer. “Why do like to go picnic, Sebastian?” Sebastian motioned towards her, placed his hands on her hips and said, “I want to spend time with you. Is that a problem?”
“Oh, it is not, of course. But, why choose picnic? We can stay here and spend time together.” “I want to go out of this Mansion and see the nature. Just say yes, please. For me, princess.” He pleaded as he pulled her to him. Marie nodded and kissed him on his lips.
As she let go, she kissed his hand and said, “I will spend time with you wherever you want.” She smiled at him, and he replied her with a beam. “But, now, I have to go. The governess is waiting for me.”
“Of course.” He kissed her for the last time and watched her leave the study.
Sebastian smiled to himself. He has a picnic to arrange
