Chapter 22
Sebastian watched Marie stood up from the table and ran. He was worried about her. He loved her very much, and he knew the announcement upset her. Marie doesn’t want to tie any knots with him. Especially, after what happened this afternoon. His heart ached as he pictured a vivid image of Marie crying. He cannot imagine Marie hurt because of him. Sebastian is crazy for hurting his dear Marie.
His dear Marie. Sebastian sat quietly in dining table. He was too concerned on his wine glass that he didn’t realize people left him alone. He played his wine and thought where Marie would be. She might be in her room, at least there, she can attain peace and no one would ever try to bother her. Sebastian was in his deep thoughts at that moment and recollecting the days he spent with Marie in Cornwall. How she was happy in his arms and gladly accepts the kiss he gives. But now, everything changed. Because of Carmel. And the engagement plans.
Sebastian stood up from his chair and drank the wine with one hard swallow. He wished he can swallow all the problems he is confronting. He would digest the problems and eliminate it all. But it wasn’t as easy like that. Reality is more complicated and more tormenting.
He ambled slowly back to his room. Sebastian’s hands were on his pockets and his head was bowed down as if he is doing penance. Every step he takes was slow. He was by the stairs when a glimpse of gown caught his attention. It was from the parlor.
He sauntered quietly and watched the halls if Edward or Stephen might be there, but they weren’t there. He reached the knob and saw Marie sitting by the vermilion couch. Her head was rested at the back and her eyes were closed tightly. Sebastian pushed the door open, slowly and quietly. It took him four quiet gaits to be in front of Marie. He sat quietly on one of the damask sofas and studied the face of Marie.
Marie has always been beautiful. Even the glimpse of worry on her face, she still looks absolutely stunning. Her cheeks were smooth and tinted with pink. How he wished to caress it and kiss it endlessly. Her lips open slightly showing a peek of her white teeth. Her hands with long fingers were in fists. He wanted to grab it and place it in his heart so she will know how he felt for her. He gazed back to her face and a single tear glistened on her smooth cheeks.
“Oh Marie.” Sebastian cried as he ran towards her and kissed her tears away.
Marie gaped as Sebastian kissed her cheeks, wiping her tears away.
Sebastian cupped her face and a slight curve formed on his lips. Marie stared blankly at Sebastian. She doesn’t know what to do.
“Are you alright?” Sebastian whispered huskily.
Marie nodded slightly.
Sebastian pulled her towards him as he knelt in front of her. He smelled the fragrant scent of her hair and kissed her temple. He embraced her long and shook her tears away.
He pulled himself away from her and faced her.
Marie slapped him as she got her consciousness back when he faced her. She removed his hands away from her shoulders. She stood up and left him kneeling in front of the couch.
Sebastian’s hands turned to fist and hit the couch. He yelled back at her before she was able to leave the parlor, “I will marry you whatever it takes, Marie! I don’t care if I hurl you towards the altar! I let you bear my name and you will be the mother of my children!”
Marie paused when she heard the words of Sebastian. She was infuriated by what he said. There is no way she will be his wife. She will never be his wife.
Never. Sebastian stormed out of the parlor before her. He passed her without glancing her way. His eyes were full of anger. He was clearly enraged. That gave more reasons why Marie shouldn’t marry him. He has a temper that easily flares up.
Before Sebastian took the first step of the stairs, he turned his head to Marie and said coldly, “Remember that I will marry you whatever means it will take me.” Then, he continued walking up to the stairs.
Marie watched him leave. He is harsh and austere. She has no reasons why she should marry the arrogant beast. He is unscrupulous and he is cruel. Her children would suffer if Sebastian is their father. Marie won’t let her children endure the ruthlessness and callousness of Sebastian.
