Chapter 15
The Duke, her daughter and the guests of the Mansion of Cornwall went to the opera. A month passed already and the number of days the Prince is staying is almost over. The Prince grew fond of Cornwall and doesn’t want to live the estate. He will leave it, if Marie is going with her.
The opera house was filled with viewers. The Duke has a seat especially reserved for them. The Prince and Stephen sat next to each other, while the ladies were sitting next to him. Stephen and Sebastian were talking a couple of topics when the opera haven’t started yet. The moment, the curtains of the opera opened, everybody hushed to silence.
The opera was long and some of the people watching fell asleep. It was about a young man of no rank who is madly in love with a beautiful lady of noble rank. The ending was obvious, they lived happily ever after.
The Prince stood up first and opened the way for his companions to pass. Yet, a woman who clung to his arm and kissed him tenderly in his lips. “Sebastian, I never thought you would be here. I miss you.” She tiptoed and kissed her long in his lips.
“Carmel, what are you doing here?” Sebastian whispered angrily at her. Carmel smiled and stroked slowly his face.
“My Father is going to a business trip. We made a stop in Cornwall and when I heard there’s an opera, I asked my Father the permission to watch the opera; you know how I love operas, my dear Sebastian. My Father allowed me to go, and here I am standing in front of you, planning to kiss you.” She said seductively and kissed him. Yet, Sebastian’s reflexes were too fast, he was able to escape the hungry kiss Carmel is planning to give him. “What’s wrong, darling?”
Marie, Stephen, and Mary were able to witness the scandalous event. Marie watched the two of them kissing and hugging in front of the crowd. Some might actually say that their kissing is far better than the opera. And it might be more entertaining. Tears are forming in Marie’s eyes, and she was shivering with anger. She can no longer control the tears.
She turned around and faced Stephen. Stephen, being a gentleman, embraced her and whispered that they will leave early. He pulled Marie and gave her to Mary for comfort. Stephen ran hastily towards the Duke and asked permission to leave early with the ladies. As soon the Duke nodded, Stephen went back to Mary and held Marie’s hand and pulled her towards the exit.
Sebastian saw the tears in Marie’s cheek. He wanted to run after her, but Stephen is too fast, and Carmel is still in front of him.
“Carmel, leave me alone.” Sebastian ordered and ran after Marie. Carmel gaped at Sebastian as he left her in the midst of many people.
“Marie!” Sebastian summoned, as he saw her climbing up the carriage.
“Stop!” Sebastian said as he stopped the door from closing.
“Marie, I need to talk to you.”
“Leave her alone, your Highness.” Mary retorted angrily at him.
Sebastian glared at her for awhile and stared to Marie who is looking outside the window of the carriage.
“Marie, please talk to me.”
Stephen removed Sebastian’s hand from the door knob and bellowed, “She don’t want to talk to you, your Highness!”
And he slammed the door close. The carriage left with a blink of an eye.
Sebastian never heard his cousin call him your Highness, ever since. He always calls him using his given name. And with that event, Sebastian is sure that his cousin is very angry at him. He has never seen Stephen get mad like that. From that second, Sebastian knew he needed to go back to Wales. Marie hates him. Stephen loathes him. How much more Mary?
Everything was perfect, then. Until, Carmel arrived. She destroyed his happiness. She ruined the feelings of the love of his life. He is utterly devastated by the events that befall on him.
