Chapter 24
Two days later, Stephen received a letter from the King. He wanted to arrange the engagement earlier, and wants it to be in Cornwall. He wanted to meet the Duke who has been so hospitable in letting the Prince staying in his mansion. The King also wants to have the wedding within two months. He wants to see his son to be married when he goes back to Wales. Stephen was bothered by the letter and wondered how he will inform Marie about the King’s wishes. He went to the dining hall for supper and everyone was already settled on the table. Sebastian looked very serene and Marie looked worried. He sat quietly next to Sebastian and waited for the food arrives. “Sebastian, did you receive a letter from your Father?” Stephen asked softly. Sebastian turned to him and nodded. “Why?” Sebastian asked. “Does it say you will be going back to Cornwall for the engagement?” Sebastian nodded again. “The letter says that the engagement party will be arranged by you, and it will be in Cornwall. It should be arranged this week or next week.” Sebastian added. He grinned after he drank his wine which caught attention by the people on the table. “I don’t know why my Father wants me to be engaged early. He might want his son to be a bachelor no more.” Sebastian remarked. In reality, he knew exactly why his Father wants him to engage early. Sebastian asked for it. Stephen replied him with a grin and continued eating. Marie eyed at Sebastian when she heard his remark. The engagement would be early. She exasperated annoyingly. Stephen told Marie about the letter after the supper. Marie was shocked and was annoyed by Sebastian’s pleased mood on the supper. Marie paced at her room remembering the grin Sebastian made during the supper. It was only then she heard him laugh. It was very long since she heard it. She hated to admit it but she adored the music of his grin and the sound of his timbre voice. She missed the voice whispering on her ears, and the soft way he talks to her. Marie was still in love with him. No matter what she does, she was still enamored with him. After seeing him in the supper, with his unshaven jaw and dazzling saxe blue eyes, he still is irresistibly handsome and being a Prince added more manly feature on him. Marie remembered his fingers playing with his food, and a vivid image of his hands tightly clasped on hers brought back memories of them being together. She hated that, and enjoyed it at the same time. She sat in front of her vanity table and brushed her long brown hair. She watched herself at the mirror and stared at her big blue eyes, she wondered if Sebastian really loved her. She also wondered if he finds her beautiful, or stunning, or maybe pretty. She looked at her face and said to herself that there is nothing very attractive at her face. She looks the same like other ladies. She wished she has the same blue eyes of Sebastian’s. It was mysterious and cynical, yet there is something very cheerful about it. Marie lied on her bed and faced the ceiling. She pondered if having Sebastian as a husband won’t be terrible. She imagined herself at the nursery holding his child in her arms and Sebastian reclining on the door watching her in awe and his child in her arms. She giggled and closed her eyes to sleep.
